Originally from Scotland, the Belted Galloway is believed to be a cross of the ancient Galloway with the Dutch Belted Lakenvelder. They are often referred to as Belties, Oreo’s, and even Magpie cows. There are three different colours; black belted, red belted and dun belted.
This docile breed is naturally polled (no horns) and is known for many favourable traits besides their good looks. The cows are known to be easy calvers and can live to 20 years of age and still rear a good calf. They can convert rough pastures into tasty and tender meat.
Their double coat consists of long hair to shed the rain and a soft thick undercoat to keep them warm.
This coat will be shed in summer which makes them suitable for different climates.
They are good mothers and have rich milk which makes the little calves grow quick.
There are many more good reasons to get into this breed and you will be able to find loads of information on the internet.
